The Rev. Beverly Dempsey is the 12th installed pastor of Jan Hus Presbyterian Church and Neighborhood House—now Avenue Church NYC and the Chair of the Board for the Urban Outreach Center of New York City.
Beverly has a joy for corporate worship in many forms. She enjoys serving an open and welcoming, multi-cultural congregation that has a passion for glorifying God through just hospitality with all people. In 2014, she planted Neighborhood Esperanza, which became a 1001 New Worshiping Community of the PC(USA). #WeAllBelong. During the last two years, she has been leading the building project for Avenue Church NYC on 1st Avenue.
Beverly brings to her years of pastoral ministry a wealth of experience from a first career in banking, an MBA in marketing and finance, and a second career in marketing and strategic planning. Beverly earned her Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in NYC and is in her final project phase of her Doctor of Ministry from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
Her family includes her husband, Joe, their nine year-old son, Owen, six year-old daughter, Caitlin, her three adult step-children, Brian, Carolyn and Tom (Nicole), and many foster children. She enjoys just about anything that takes her outside, like golf and tennis, gardening, walks with her family’s two mini-dachshunds that ate the cushions off of the couch… and a little freestyle now and then.
